CAERULEA
Medium-sized water lily with pads from 15 to 20 cm and 10 cm flowers.
Not hardy.
This is the water lily species that is depicted in Egyptian hieroglyphs, and that is often erroneously referred to as the "blue Egyptian lotus." Caerulea is extremely fragrant, and is said to have a number of medicinal qualities.
Plant one per 14 litre planting container in 20 to 60 cm of water in order to cover about one square metre of surface. Consult our water lily and water gardening guide for information on planting and overwintering tropicals.
