(Latour-Marliac, c. 1935)
BARONESSORCZY
Medium-sized water lily with pads from 12 to 15 cm in diameter, and 10 cm flowers.
'Baroness Orczy' has delicate pink flowers that open over lightly crenelated pads. It is easy to grow and care for.
This lily was named in honour of the Baroness Orczy, who was a good friend and client of Latour-Marliac's. She was of Hungarian noble origin, but lived mostly in London and Paris. An author, she is best known for her play, The Scarlet Pimpernel. She was instrumental in Latour-Marliac's early success in Great Britain.
Plant one per 14 or 20 litre planting container at a depth of 20 to 60 cm in order to have approximately one square metre of surface coverage after a year or two.
