Large water lily with pads from 16 to 20 cm in diameter, and 14 cm flowers.
'Almost Black' is the second darkest red, behind Slocum's 'Black Princess'. Both flowers are equally dark in the centre, but the petals on 'Almost Black' become lighter toward the outside, where the petals on 'Black Princess' are a uniform red-black. This lily is large in scale, and is a vigorous grower.
Plant one per 20 litre planting container at a depth of 40 to 100 cm in order to have approximately one square metre of surface coverage after a year or two.
