'Amabilis' was first offered for sale in the 1922 catalogue and shares its pedigree with some illustrious cousins: 'Tulipformis' (currently priceless) and 'Madame Julien Chifflot'. Unlike these cousins, though, it is easy to multiply, and therefore was a popular export during the interwar period. It has unusual geometric star-shaped flowers, will do well in deep water, and is a profuse bloomer.
Plant one per 20 litre planting container at a depth of 40 to 100 cm in order to have approximately one square metre of surface coverage after a year or two.
